Apple iPhone 16 in for review

Introducing the iPhone 16, the base model in Apple’s latest lineup. Inside the box, you’ll find a braided USB-C cable and a SIM eject tool – that’s all Apple includes these days.

Powered by the new 3nm A18 SoC, the iPhone 16 brings increased efficiency compared to the 4nm A16 Bionic. Despite keeping the same 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine, the performance boost is noticeable.

Memory has been bumped up to 8GB of RAM, a step up from the 6GB in its predecessor. The battery capacity is also larger, providing up to 22 hours of video streaming – 2 hours more than the iPhone 15.

The ultrawide camera is new but differs from the one in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. It’s a 12MP sensor with autofocus and macro mode. The dual camera system has been realigned and now supports spatial video capture for use with Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

A significant new addition is the **Camera Control button**, making its way to non-Pro models. This button detects both capacitive touch and pressure, allowing users to open the camera and access settings from any screen, even when locked.

Despite these improvements, Apple continues to use the same 6.1-inch 60Hz display, which feels outdated compared to competitors. While most iPhone users may not need a high refresh rate, it’s disappointing to see this nearly €1,000 device fall short in comparison to many midrange Android phones that now offer faster displays.
