OnePlus 12 Review

The OnePlus 12 has arrived, marking the latest chapter in the company’s flagship phone lineage. But does it bring enough new and exciting features to stand out in a crowded market? We’ve been putting the phone through its paces, and here’s our detailed review.
Design and Display:
At first glance, the OnePlus 12 feels like an evolution of the OnePlus 11, not a revolution. The familiar curved glass back and punch-hole display are present, although the new green “Emerald Isle” color with its marbled pattern adds a touch of personality. The black variant with its textured finish is also appealing. The display itself is a stunning 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and incredible brightness (though some reports about the advertised peak nits being unreachable have surfaced). Watching videos and playing games is a joy on this screen.
Performance and Power:

To begin with, under the hood, the OnePlus 12 packs a punch with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and up to 16GB of RAM. Consequently, this translates to blazing-fast performance in everyday tasks, multitasking, and even the most demanding games. Moreover, OxygenOS 13.1, based on Android 13, runs smoothly and offers some exciting new features such as improved notification control and a customizable theme engine.
Transitioning to the camera department, it sees the biggest upgrade this year. Specifically, the new Hasselblad 4G system boasts a triple-lens setup: a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide, and a 3x periscope telephoto. As a result, photos in good lighting conditions are excellent, with sharp details and accurate colors. Additionally, the new telephoto lens adds much-needed versatility for capturing zoomed-in shots without losing quality. However, in low-light situations, the performance is decent, but some noise does creep in. Furthermore, videography capabilities are impressive, with support for up to 8K recording at 24fps.

Battery and Charging:

The OnePlus 12 houses a large 5,400mAh battery that easily lasts a full day on a single charge with moderate usage. And when it’s time to refuel, things get speedy. The 100W wired charging can take the phone from 0 to 100% in just 25 minutes, while the 50W wireless charging is also a welcome addition.

The OnePlus 12 is a solid flagship phone that delivers excellent performance, a gorgeous display, and a versatile camera system. While the design might not be groundbreaking, the improvements in key areas like the camera and battery life are noteworthy. However, the lack of significant design changes and the price tag, which is expected to be similar to the OnePlus 11, might make some potential buyers hesitate.

For those seeking a powerful and polished flagship experience with a focus on performance and camera improvements, the OnePlus 12 is a worthy contender. However, those looking for something radically different in terms of design or a more budget-friendly option might want to look elsewhere.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Some reports have questioned the advertised peak brightness of the display.
  • The design might feel too familiar to some users.
  • The price is expected to be similar to the OnePlus 11, which might be a turn-off for some.
